Kendra Y. – Most of my career I’ve worked in Financial Services so I thought I knew about finances. Boy was I wrong. I was a single mom drowning in post-divorce, post-adoption debt who felt like a hamster on a wheel spinning round and round and never able to get out from under the debt load. I know now that it was because I never truly understood how to create a “zero-based budget” and live within it. I also didn’t have a clue about the “debt snowball.” It has helped me better understand what order to pay things off in. I was doing it all wrong. I was trying to pay off the debt with the highest APR because that seemed to make the most sense.
What an eye opener this course was! Don and John were terrific in guiding me through it and offering wise, Godly counsel all along the way. They even had a separate meeting with me where I was able to seek financial advice and walk them through my new Dave Ramsey inspired financial plan. I was planning a trip to Disney for my daughter at the time and they encouraged me to post-pone that until I could pay for it without credit card use. Imagine that concept and I work for the credit card division of a large global bank!
I have stuck closely to my plan which will take 5-7 years to completely turn around and right-size my ship. We have not been to Disney yet even though God has blessed me financially and we can now go without the use of credit cards. To say this course has changed my life would be an understatement. Knowledge is power and God-inspired knowledge even more so! I will make sure my daughter has this knowledge at a young age so that she can live her life differently and not find herself in the same boat as I was.
There could not be a better name for this course- Financial Peace University! Even though the plan I created will take 5-7 years to fully implement, I have had financial peace the entire time because I have a plan! It’s a plan that I can be confident in, I can see it working and it makes so much sense. I can promise you that ignorance is not bliss! Gain empowerment and peace with this course.
Mike F., a BVBC member, participated in the Financial Peace University in 2014 and found it to be very helpful. “The most important thing I learned at Financial Peace University was having a plan of where to put our money,” said Mike. “Prior to the class I thought I knew how to manage our finances but the course laid out a more thorough and focused path for our finances, backed by expertise that provided comfort.”
Mike was reluctant to spend the money for the class registration fee even though he had heard about it from church and friends. He knew he and his wife already followed some of the class principles. Finally, they were compelled to take the class and are glad they did.
“I just expected to learn some new insights about how to effectively manage our finances,” said Mike. “The class met those expectations but also exceeded them in two ways: First, I learned much more than I expected. Second, the course’s emphasis on uniting the couples on their spending and financial management was highly beneficial.”
“I would encourage everyone to take this class,” recommends Mike. “Even if you think you have a great understanding of finances, you’ll undoubtedly learn new things or have items reinforced. Additionally, if you feel like you don’t know or care very little about finances, this course discusses finances in a way relevant to all levels of financial understanding.”
Mark and Emily H. attended the Financial Peace University and gained great insights about their finances. This is what they said about their experience: “Going through Financial Peace University allowed us to refocus our finances and set new goals for our family. It gave us a clear set of steps to develop our goals and budget. We were able to develop a monthly budget that we could work within and we also were able to increase and refocus our retirement and savings goals. Financial Peace University gave us the structure to really take a good look at where we were and then decide where we wanted to go. Now we are able to give, save and spend intentionally and faithfully. Financial Peace University has truly blessed us and set us on a solid foundation for the future.”
