LOCATION: Brandywine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington, Delaware, United States

HOURS: Part-Time 20 hrs. (plus training & seasonal hours)

PURPOSE: The technical director is responsible to oversee all technical operations for worship services at Brandywine with regard to audio, video, lighting (AVL). The technical director trains volunteers and oversees the administration and activities of the technical team ministry. The technical director coordinates maintenance for all audio, video, lighting, projection, wiring, and related software/hardware in the building. This position is 20 hours, beginning June 28th, 2021.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology related field or a minimum of four years of successful work/ministry experience in professional sound reinforcement, broadcast, production, or recording
  • Able to mix audio and program/run lighting, presentation, and broadcast software with sensitivity to musical and ministry excellence
  • Able to oversee technical elements of a service in relationship to AVL related technologies (sanctuary sound, media & stage, broadcast teams)
  • Familiarity with AVL wiring, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Familiarity with ProPresenter, recording/editing software (ex. ProTools, Ableton, Photoshop, Premiere, Audition, Logic Pro, Final Cut X) and Planning Center or their equivalents is preferred, but not required
  • Has a musical background


  • Oversee and coordinate maintenance for all AVL systems and teams related to: audio, video, lighting, media projection, stage management, and broadcast (in partnership with our multi-media consultants)
  • Work under direction of W&M director, engaging with MLT and staff to find the best AVL solutions to the needs of Brandywine
  • Conduct and participate in training, meetings, and teams as assigned
  • Assist in the staging, moving, and inventorying of AVL related items
  • Schedule, recruit and facilitate the training of volunteer teams in cohesive operation of AVL systems
  • Balance demonstrating as audio lead and training others to perform audio lead at high level
  • Respond to emergency call-outs from team members and facilitate emergency repair of AVL systems in a timely manner
  • Communicate promptly, both orally and in writing, with staff and volunteers to obtain and disseminate information, resolve discrepancies, respond to congregation, and foster professional relationships
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings needed to fulfill responsibilities
  • Complete time sensitive tasks related to weekly services and events
  • Coordinate/schedule technical support for ministry events outside of services and events including, but not limited to weddings, funerals, conferences, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position involves sitting, walking, standing, driving and accurate perception of sound, vision, depth perception and manual dexterity. Persons in this position will exert 25-40 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push or pull objects.


  • Reports to the Worship & Music Director
  • Develops relationships with MLT, facilities staff, musicians, and tech teams

SCHEDULE AND SALARY (20 hours, $25-30/salary depending on experience)
In-person business/office hours (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday)
In-person staff and production meetings (Tuesday)
One (1) weeknight evening rehearsal
Sunday mornings
Flexible training/meeting hours
Seasonal rehearsals and services (Christmas, Good Friday, Easter)
