The scripture passages in 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 and Colossians 3:22-25 reveal five ways to approach work as worship. First, work according to your divine design; that is, discover your internal calling. Second, pursue work that is beneficial. This kind of work contributes to the community we want to live in. Third, consider all work as worthy of dignity. There is no caste system within the Gospel. Fourth, work for our true master (God), not our earthly master. We work to please God, not to earn favor with man. Finally, put our soul into our work. Christians should be known for our work ethic and excellence.
Many Christian spend a great deal of time working and yet do not realize how their work intersects with their faith. Scripture makes no division between the sacred and secular parts of our lives. God gives us our work, skills and access to the people we work with so that through them we might worship Him and be a lighthouse for Him. This series will help us see God’s intention for work, how we work for His glory, how we make a kingdom impact through our work, and how to make sure work does not become an idol.
What God has to say to us from His Word, in Romans 12:14-21, is one of the most vital and relevant messages we will hear all year. This text speaks powerfully and directly to cancel culture and the hostility, contempt and tribalism that has come to define America. God will show us that there is a radically different culture that He desires for us to create as the people of God defined by honor, speaking truth in relational love and peacemaking.
