UPDATE November 18, 2021
The ballot distributed at Sunday’s congregational meeting created confusion related to the Deacon nominees. This confusion caused numerous members to believe they needed to select three (3) out of the five (5) Deacon nominees. The intent was to vote on three (3) new Deacon positions and two (2) second term Deacon positions. Therefore, Leadership believes it is prudent to conduct a revote to get an accurate assessment from the congregation. We will be holding a revote for the Deacon positions after the contemporary service on Sunday, December 5.
Committee positions were not impacted and therefore we are pleased to announce that Terrence Thomas was selected for the Property Committee and Carol Houseal for the Nominating Committee. Thank you for your understanding.
The 2021 Annual Congregational Meeting is Sunday, November 14, 2021 immediately following the second service at church. We invite members and non-members to attend this meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to vote on open positions on the Board of Deacons and Permanent Committees (Nominating, Personnel, Finance and Property Committees), as specified in our Bylaws. Everyone will receive a ballot and is encouraged to give us their feedback. However, only members’ votes will be counted. We ask you to pray diligently for this meeting.
If you are requesting new business, please present the request in writing to the church clerk, Karen Douglas, by Wednesday, October 27, 2021 as stipulated in the Bylaws.
TOWN HALL MEETINGS
The Board of Deacons will host Town Hall Meetings to give the congregation ample time to ask questions about the nominees and church business. This enables us to complete the Congregational Meeting efficiently. We strongly encourage you to attend if you have questions. The Town Hall Meetings are:
- Sunday, October 31 at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. in Room 33C
- Sunday, November 7 via Zoom, 6:00 p.m. To join the meeting, go to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/3888460849. To participate via phone only, call 929-436-2866 then enter meeting ID: 388 846 0849
Our Bylaws include these voting requirements:
- A quorum is required for the vote to take place. Twenty (20) percent of active church members must be present to form a quorum.
- Deacons must be affirmed by no less than 80% of the votes cast by the members present in the quorum at the business meeting.
- If a person nominated for the role of Deacon does not garner 80% he is not considered affirmed by the congregation and may not assume the role. A new nominee will be presented at the next business meeting.
- Permanent committee members (Nominating, Personnel, Finance and Property Committees) are elected by majority vote.
