Meet the Teachers

Kerri Wodzinski: Director

God placed working with children on my heart when I was a young child. When I entered college, though I had other ideas in mind, God quickly directed my path towards education. I graduated from Juniata college with a dual certification in early childhood and elementary education.

I have taught in a variety of school settings through the years, most recently spending seven years as the kindergarten teacher at BVCP. I love being immersed with children in an environment which fosters both a love for learning about the world around them and Jesus’ love and faithfulness for us.

I have now been called onto the path of director of the preschool. It is a gift and blessing to have the privilege of being on the early learning journey with each child and family.

When I am not surrounding myself with all things Preschool, I can be found fostering my daughters’ love for horses and teaching riding lessons to children of all ages. I live in Chester County, PA, with my husband, two daughters, cats, dogs and horses.

Amy Hickey: Lead Teacher, Kindergarten

I graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters in Social Work in 2000. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to stay home with my children once my husband and I started our family. As my children began to grow older and graduate from Brandywine Valley Christian Preschool and Kindergarten, I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the school. I was fortunate enough to be hired in the 2-year-old classroom initially. After working with the little lambs for two years, I was blessed with our fourth child and took two years off from teaching to spend time with her. I have an Early Childcare Education Certificate from Delaware Technical College. When I am not at BVCP, I am volunteering at my children’s school, running kids to practices and lessons or doing laundry.

Susan Baer: Assistant Teacher, Kindergarten

susan baerI have been an assistant preschool teacher and substitute at Brandywine Valley Christian Preschool since 2010. I was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, as was my husband, Bob, and, now our three teenage sons, Thomas, Bobby and Daniel. I enjoy volunteering in both the children’s and youth ministries at Brandywine Valley Church. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, playing board games and doing puzzles.

Emily Tobia: Lead Teacher, Pre-K Class

I graduated with a from American University in 2002 with a degree is Elementary Education. I received my Masters in Literacy from Wilmington University. I taught 1st and 2nd grade until I had my first child. I was fortunate to be able to stay home with my children for a few years. When my daughter started school at Brandywine Valley, I became a long term sub there for a year before starting in the 3-day Pre-K class.

MJ Sun: Co-Teacher, Pre-K Class

mj sunI graduated from University of Delaware with a degree in Human Development Family Studies. I am very involved with children’s ministry at my church in Pennsylvania. From youth to adult years, I have volunteered as a teacher for Korean school, vacation Bible school and Sunday school with different age groups. Right after college, God graciously gifted me with a son and two years later a daughter. Upon visiting BVCP in desperate search to find and enroll my son to his first preschool, I felt the spark inside of me. That this was the school that God had chosen for my children and also for myself. In my heart, I knew this place is where God wanted me to plant my seed and grow for my future after completing my early childhood education program. I am very thankful that God led both my children and myself here.

Julianne Cruser: Lead Teacher, Three’s Class

I’m blessed to be able to return to Brandywine Valley Christian Preschool for another year. As a child I wanted to be a mother and a teacher. I was raised in Lancaster County and moved to North Wilmington as an adult where I have had the opportunity to be a stay at home mom. Although a country girl at heart, I love my little piece of North Wilmington and all the convenience it provides such as the opportunity to teach preschool age children. I love to interact with children and engage them at their level. I enjoy teaching, encouraging, and watching children grow into all that God has created them to be. Outside of the classroom you can find me cheering my three boys on at the baseball field and doing arts & crafts with my daughter. I also enjoy decorating and designing along side my husband.

Maria Gonzalez: Lead Teacher, Three's Class

maria gonzalezBorn and raised in Brooklyn and attended New York University where I acquired my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. After a decade on the West Coast, my husband and I relocated back East to be closer to family. I was first introduced to Brandywine Valley Church as a brand new MOPS mom of my only daughter and made the decision to send her to BVCP. That was in 2011 and I have been here, first as a parent, and then as an Assistant Teacher, and, most recently as a Lead, ever since. I have an Early Childcare Certificate and enjoy learning about and implementing best practices into our classroom. When I am not teaching at BVCP, you can find me teaching after school drama classes to local elementary students or directing youth plays at Wilmington Drama League.

Tina Fernandes: Assistant Teacher, Three's Class

photo is tina fernandes.I first began working at Brandywine Valley Christian Preschool (BVCP) in 2014 and am blessed to continue working in such a family-oriented workspace. As a stay-at-home mom, I was looking for a preschool for my daughter. I learned about BVCP and enrolled her. When she started Pre-K, I applied as a substitute. After working as a substitute, I began working as an assistant in the 2’s class for two years. I then moved onto the 3’s class and finally Pre-K. The following year, I was gifted with my second daughter and took a break for two years. I am back now with the 3’s and am so thankful for it. I love working with kids and am so grateful for the opportunity to see them grow and learn in their beginning years. I enjoy taking bike rides with my 12 year old and playing dress up with my little one. I also love reading in my spare time.

Michelle Baker: Assistant Teacher, Three’s Class

I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and from Denver Seminary with a Master’s degree in Counseling Ministries.  I have had the opportunity to work with children in a variety of settings for over twenty years.  My background includes being a nanny, directing a preschool program within a facility for homeless women and children, and teaching Sunday School.  My husband and I have two daughters.  I enjoy cooking for my family, being outdoors, 80’s music, and coffee.

Meri Wheeler: Lead Teacher, Two's Class / Kindergarten Art Teacher

I feel called to be here at BVCP helping the children grow in all areas of development. I enjoy getting to know each child and appreciate their unique differences and their love of learning. I enjoy teaching them about God’s love through Bible stories, songs, and books. I desire their preschool experience to be positive and fun and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime. I am married with two adventurous boys. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me spending time with my family, volunteering for various church activities and fostering dogs.

Anne Kozicki: Assistant Teacher, Two's Class

Image of Anne Kozicki. My first introduction to BVCP was in 2010 when my children first attended. Having sent four of my five children here, I was thrilled to become one of the dedicated and loving staff members in 2016. Before BVCP, I worked as an assistant for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and in the resource room at Saint Mary Magdalen. I have a degree in Communication Arts and Theatre and have also worked as a muralist and painter. My husband and I have lived here in Delaware for 18 years and we have five children ranging from college to age 3. I was blessed to be home with my children and nephews for several years. I love art, music, and collecting children’s books, and I feel extremely fortunate to get to share all of these things with our classes each week!

Heidi Friedkin: Gym Teacher

I graduated from University of Delaware with a Physical Education and Health Degree.  I taught Driver Education for 5 years at Padua Academy, while coaching field hockey and gymnastics.  I stayed home for a few years to raise my 4 children, but even then was always working with kids somewhere; Sunday School, VBS, gymnastics classes and volunteering on the Children’s Ministry team at BVBC with the most awesome women and mentors.  When my kids were all in school I came to BVCP and have been teaching gym and an after school gymnastics program since 2005 and have loved every minute.  I love spending time with my husband and family, spending time with the Brandywine Valley Church youth, doing anything outdoors and especially love being at Phillies games.  My very favorite thing is being a Nana!

Phyllis Munch: Librarian

A native of Delaware, I have over 30 years of teaching experience. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Primary/Kindergarten Education from the University of Delaware. I have taught 2nd grade, preschool gym classes, Pre-Kindergarten classes, Kindergarten classes and have also been a preschool director. My husband and I have two grown sons and six grandsons. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, singing, getting together with my Bible Fellowship group, and UD football. It is also my hope to show the children how much God loves them and plant seeds for a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ. As librarian I get to indulge my love of books and help the teachers expose our children to a wide variety of reading experiences. Children who are read to do much better in school & life.

Sandy Ebbott: Substitute Teacher

I have a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and a master’s in special education. I taught at a school for children with language based learning disabilities for four years prior to having children. While raising my children I tutored, taught classes for Reading ASSIST and homeschooled my children for eight years. Most recently, I worked at the Pilot School, first as a teacher and then as Head of the Lower Division. While volunteering for Awana with the Cubbies, three and four year olds, I fell in love with this age group.

Amber Taylor: Office Manager

Photo of Amber Taylor.I first came to BVCP as a mom of a 2 year old and a 1 year old. I wanted to find a school where my 2-year-old daughter could interact through play, learn with other children and most importantly, the school would show the love of Christ. BVCP has been such a blessing to my family. God opened the door for me to join the preschool staff and I’m thrilled to be part of the family!

I have a bachelor’s degree at West Chester University with focuses in Music and Psychology. After graduating, I worked in a variety of jobs including administrative, educational training, project management, a string’s teacher and starting my own etsy shop. My heart is to be part of a ministry where children are educated and introduced to the love of Jesus at a very young age. What a gift to be able to work behind the scenes and be part of God’s plan with this preschool.

In my spare time, I enjoy trying new recipes, reading and hanging out with my family. My husband and I have three wonderful children and reside in North Wilmington, DE.
